Worship Ministry

The Music Ministries of First Baptist Church, Elberton exist to bring glory to God by providing quality musical experiences to its participants and true worship opportunities to the congregation and the community. Our primary goal is to teach, live, and lead true worship as prescribed by the Bible. Anything less would be disobedient.

The definition of worship we have adopted as our own is from Dr. Bruce Leafblad:

Worship is communion with God in which believers, by grace,
center their mind's attention and their heart's affection on the Lord,
humbly glorifying God in response to His greatness and His Word.

We pray you will find this definition true of us as we seek to honor God in worship.

Celebration Choir

Our Celebration Choir is unmatched in musical and social qualities. As we seek to worship our Lord and Savior with the best of who and what we are, we spend our rehearsal times moving toward that goal. This includes in-depth work on each piece so as not to offer anything that costs us nothing (1 Chronicles 21:24), musical lessons to improve upon that which God has given us, wonderful fellowship inside and outside of rehearsals, and bible studies on the subject of worship and music's place in worship.

The sanctuary choir sings in Sunday morning worship services. They perform music from all ranges of styles and have additional opportunities for Christmas and Easter musicals or cantatas. With a choir of approximately thirty-five members, it is possible to do a wide range of musical and social activities.

Come join us as we worship the Lord!

Handbells

Handbells provide a unique ensemble experience. Unlike choirs or orchestras, the handbell player is solely responsible for his or her part. There is no one else who will cover that person's part. Though some might think this adds too much pressure, it actually enhances the musical experience, not to mention that the sound of handbells is such a wonderful sound. There is nothing like it.

Because of the nature of handbell ringing, the ringer must possess some music reading abilities. The ability to read rhythms is highly important. The ability to read pitches is not so important as one ringer is only responsible for 2 notes (including their respective flats and sharps - at the most, 4 bells).

Solo or ensemble handbell ringing is becoming popular. This is usually a small group of 4 or less that play to piano accompaniment. The music is usually written in such a way as to challenge the ringer's abilities, so should be attempted by only those with a desire to work.

Orchestra

Do you play an instrument? Did you once play an instrument? Our orchestra needs you and you need to use the talent God’s given. We’ve got room for any brass, woodwind, string, or percussion instruments. The orchestra plays for Sunday morning services. They accompany the congregational songs and the choral anthem when appropriate. The orchestra also plays on large productions like Easter and Christmas Musicals or Cantatas.

Praise Band

Our praise band consists of drums, acoustic and electric guitars, bass guitar, piano, and keyboard. We would love to add a small brass section to the mix at some point. The Praise Band plays for our Sunday Morning service on congregational & contemporary songs as well as solo and ensemble music.

Children's Music Ministries

Our number one goal is to lead children to Christ through the medium of music. Our number two goal is to give children a quality musical education and appreciation that so few gain from any other source. From ages 4 to grade 5, we have age appropriate material for their musical education. The youngest learn simple rote melodies and finding a steady beat all the way through the spectrum to the oldest that learn how to read music and sight sing. Our leaders are well versed in childhood education and music. Join us for our Musical Activity Time on Sundays at 6 pm.
